Sassicaia 1989 (Tenuta San Guido)
Upon its release, the 1989 Sassicaia was brandished with a cringe worthy "tasted but not recommended" review by Robert Parker. I can't say that time has helped the situation much. In fact, we opened two bottles of this wine to make sure our impressions were correct. The first bottle was a magnum and the second sample came from a standard 750-milliliter bottle. Between the two, the second sample was marginally better and this review is based on that bottle. Nevertheless, this vintage feels tired and flat with bitter astringency on the close.
